January and February 2017

Hello Friends and a Belated Happy New Year! We are excitedly planning our events for the year at the Park and wanted to update you on a few that are coming up and park news:

SATURDAY JANUARY 28TH FROM 4-6 PM – Our rescheduled Winter Solstice Celebration, now renamed Winter Gathering :) We will have hot chocolate and ingredients to make s’mores over fire pits, and we will light up the wall with beautiful luminaries. Please join us and our partner Six:EIght Vineyard Church as we come out of hibernation for a late afternoon snack and to say hi to neighbors!

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 7TH FROM 6-8 PM – Join us for another fundraiser Happy Hour at McCloskey’s at 17 Cricket Ave in Ardmore. A portion of your food and drink tab will go to benefit the Friends of Linwood Park! So stop by for one after work or bring the family for dinner! Just mention you are there for the Friends of Linwood when you order or pay. These smaller fundraisers are replacing the larger Pints for the Park of years past so please try to stop by one of them throughout the year. We will be moving around Ardmore so you can get a taste of all great local food and drink and people. The funds we raise go directly back into the park to purchase items such as mulch, tools and gloves, chalk and supplies for Chalk Mob, decorations for the Memorial Day Parade, perennials, trees and shrubs and much more. We rely on the neighborhood of Ardmore to support us and you do!

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 23RD FROM 7-9 PM – Annual Membership Meeting at Jack McShea’s at 34 Lancaster Ave in Ardmore. ALL are WELCOME and encouraged to attend! The topic of this year’s meeting is 5 Things You Can Do to Improve Storm Water presentation given my our newest Board member Maggie Rwakazina. This will include info about the park and its storm water management and watersheds ( did you know the wall represents the division of 2 watersheds?) , how and what to plant for increased storm water absorption and to create a beautiful habitat on your property and simple things you can do around your house. Please bring questions! We will also be discussing 2017 Park Events and Updates.

Welcome to new Board Member Maggie Rwakazina! If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Friends of Linwood Park Board, please email us or come to our Annual Meeting and talk to us! We are an all-volunteer non-profit with Board members from a variety of backgrounds and we are always looking to increase the diversity of our Board.

More info about Park Events coming soon, including a Boot Camp Class starting in March and other fitness programming for Spring and Summer.

Thanks and see you in the Park!
